A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PRODUCT MANAGER

In Maarten’s world, no two days are the same. As Product Manager at SmartFleetDX, he combines field expertise, customer support, technical know-how and strategic coordination in one role.

Meet Maarten

Since joining the company in 2021, Maarten has played a key role in all areas of machine guidance solutions.

As Product Manager, he plays a pivotal role throughout the entire lifecycle of SmartFleetDX projects.

  • Crafting offers for clients,
  • Discussing solutions and providing system demonstrations,
  • Supporting installations and calibrations,
  • Training a young and expanding technical team,
  • Ensuring smooth handovers,
  • And stepping in when complex issues require expert attention.

How his day begins

There is no such thing as a “typical” morning for Maarten.

As he spends 80% of his time on the road, he usually starts the day with a coffee before jumping into his car to meet his first client. Some mornings take him across Belgium for:

  • Sales visits,
  • Technical interventions,
  • Calibrations or installations,
  • Or live demonstrations on-site.

On Tuesdays, he is in the office catching up on administrative and coordination tasks, but flexibility is truly the theme of his work.

“I plan my own days,” he says. 'Every morning can take me somewhere different.'

Rising to the challenges

One of the biggest challenges? Maintaining high service levels while supporting multiple clients simultaneously.

Maarten plays a strategic role in maintaining SmartFleetDX’s strong reputation for responsiveness, from prioritising urgent cases to deciding which technician to deploy.

Wrapping up the day

His days often start early and end late.

If he’s been on site for a physical intervention, he needs to finalise the report. If he has client meetings the next day, he prepares offers or reviews technical details.
His work has the rhythm of the field, but also the structure that ensures every project moves forward smoothly.

Something people don’t expect

Behind the role of Product Manager lies a surprisingly hands-on reality that many people don’t expect.

Many people don’t realise just how technical the role can be.
Maarten often gets involved in tasks that require a high degree of versatility, from welding brackets to electrical wiring.
